Conservation Intern

Temporary, Full-time Internship

The Conservation Department will have one intern in 2021.

The Conservation Intern will be a unique position where the candidate will assist with both natural resource management and conservation education and outreach. The Conservation Intern will be responsible for completing an independent project over the course of their employment. This position is based at the Holden Arboretum campus in Kirtland, OH with occasional travel to the Cleveland Botanical Gardens.

·       Support with invasive species management, including the use of herbicides.

·       Assist with natural resource monitoring (forest health, aquatic species, pests & diseases).

·       Assist with education and outreach materials for Conservation Education.

·       Assistance with the Conservation Stewards Volunteer Program including classes and volunteer events.

·       Assist with development and updating of informational materials and online content.

·       Other duties as assigned.

The Internship is open to undergraduates working towards a degree in Environmental Education, Biology, Conservation, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Plant Science, or a related field.

Candidates must display strong interest in natural resource management and conservation education. Strong communication and organizational skills, ease in diverse group situations, critical thinking, a passion for nature, willingness to work outside in all weather, enthusiasm, and an ability to work independently and within a team are all critical.

Native and invasive plant identification, photography and video editing, as well as experience working with and managing volunteers are a bonus.

Open to US citizens and permanent residents who are current undergraduates or recent graduates. Interns are responsible for their own transportation.
