MRI Research Engineer

Job Details
Performs work in structural and functional neuroimaging data analysis, including current research interests of the Institute in Epilepsy. Performs work in multimodal integration including MRI, CT, PET, SPECT, MEG and invasive EEG for epilepsy presurgical evaluation. Investigate new methodological approaches and facilitate presentation of multimodal data at epilepsy patient management conferences to improve current clinical workflow. Prepares charts, graphs and other documentation in support of articles for publication, project reports and grant applications.

Responsibilities:
  • Investigates new methodological approaches, and algorithm and software development for fMRI, MRI, DTI.
  • Uses and develops test statistics for fMRI experimental designs.
  • Conducts continuing studies and analyses to determine the feasibility of various advanced engineering approaches to define concepts and criteria for further programs or to resolve major problems in current programs.
  • Resolves technical problems requiring the use of advanced theories, concepts and principles.
  • Adapts, designs and develops new methodological approaches for multimodal integration including MRI, CT, PET, SPECT, MEG and invasive EEG
  • Facilitates presentation of multimodal integration data at epilepsy patient management conferences
  • Develops new algorithms and software for MRI, fMRI, DTI analysis to be integrated for clinical use; Translates results to the operating room to assist surgical planning
  • Prepares charts, graphs and other documentation in support of articles for publication, project reports and grant applications
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:
  • M.S. degree in mathematics, statistics, physics, biomedical or electrical engineering, or related field.
  • Coursework with magnetic resonance physics, signal and image processing, fMRI, and time series analysis preferred.

Certifications:
  • None required.

Complexity of Work:
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Have strong analytical skills, experience and interests in applied mathematics, statistics, MR physics, programming (C and Matlab), and signal and image processing.
  • Organizational, communication, written and verbal skills.

Work Experience:
  • Strong interest in clinical application of engineering/programming skills
  • Prior experience with multiple modalities and their applications in brains with neurological diseases, such as structural and functional MRI, strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience interfacing with clinicians on using software tools to investigate brains with neurological disease strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of MRI and related signal processing.
  • Experience with fMRI and time series analysis strongly preferred.
  • Mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Signal and image processing skills.
  • Prior experience with scientific publication at peer-reviewed journals strongly preferred

Physical Requirements:
  • Manual Dexterity to operate office equipment.
  • Ability to lift and transport up to 15 lbs.
  • May require extended periods of standing, walking and sitting.
  • Good Visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.

Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment.
