JOB DESCRIPTION: The Library Residency is part of the OhioLINK Luminaries Program and offers hands-on resume building experience in the information studies profession, exploring its purpose, reach and expertise. The OhioLINK Library Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiative seeks to create and promote career opportunities in librarianship, information studies, and data sciences to individuals from under-represented populations and economically disadvantaged environments. The Initiative aims to identify and encourage diverse candidates for Ohio’s libraries and library-related industries that are more representative of the state’s population, while also encouraging and supporting efforts towards greater diversity, equity, and inclusion at the library level.
Enrollment in CSC 291/292/391/392 is recommended, but not required. If you elect to enroll in the course, the library residency will be considered an On-Campus Internship and noted as such on your transcript.
Accountabilities: Participate in different facets of librarianship, including but not limited to, the organization, interpretation and dissemination of information, public services, library technology, social media, databases, and preservation of information. Gain an understanding of informational needs of students and aid in the creation of programming to meet these needs. Interact with library resources to build an understanding of the information needs of campus communities, and how best to preserve and present them for use. Complete semester end evaluations, assessing interpersonal skill development and learning objectives.
Qualifications: Required: Ability to commit for one academic year. Be at least sophomore standing by fall 2022, with 2 or more semesters remaining. Must have dependable work-ethic, self-motivated and self-management skills. Must be able to work with minimal supervision. Ability to multi-task, and exercise critical judgment. Be a productive member of a team. Represent CSU to internal and external community in a positive way.
Preferred: Minimum GPA: 2.5. Appreciation for libraries, data analysis, informatics, and/or research. Interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Objectives: Grow in awareness of skills, passions, and talents to help define plans beyond college. Experience in information studies profession, and experiential learning. Participate in professional development opportunities. Skills also gained, but not limited to, library technology, customer service, research and data management skills, and ability to work independently. Enhancing appropriate communication styles, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Availability: Flexible weekday, between 8:00am – 6:00pm. Maximum hours: 20.
