Environmental Health Coordinator

Summit County Public Health is looking for an Environmental Health Coordinator to work full-time (35 hours per week). The position coordinates and provides administrative and program support services for specialized programs and performs related duties as required or assigned under direction of the program supervisor.

This position works Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm. May require evening and weekend work.

Job Duties:

  • Coordinates day-to-day activities for the vector, mosquito and petting zoo programs.
  • Assists in developing program budgets, goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with vector program requirements and regulations.
  • Coordinates quality assurance projects, quality improvement and workflow analytics.
  • Monitors budget allocations and expenditures for vector program.
  • Prepares reports, evaluations, proposals and other documents necessary for funding and successful operation of the program.
  • Independently writes grant proposals when necessary.
  • Represents the program and serves as a subject matter expert.
  • Develops partnerships with stakeholders.
  • Maintains positive community relations.
  • Prepares promotional materials.
  • Monitors and assigned appropriate staff to vector complaints.
  • Ensures rodenticide, larvicide, and adulticide are applied and tracked in accordance with Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) guidelines.
  • Coordinates and develops the processes to ensure that animal bite and rabies investigations in conducted accordance with EH Code 601.
  • Performs job duties under the regulations, policies and procedures set forth by Summit County Public Health and outside agencies such as the County Fiscal Officer, Ohio Department of Health, and state and federal government.
  • Performs any other duties as required for the efficient operation of Summit County Public Health.
  • Obliges, as set forth by the Summit County Public Health Emergency Operations Plan and within the scope of their employment, to be available for emergency service during routine and non-routine hours of operation including 24/7/365 availability. May be required to have medical clearance for respiratory protection or other personal protective equipment and may be exposed to inclement weather, extreme temperatures, unpleasant smells or odors, dust, dirt, fumes, airborne particles, pesticides, toxins or caustic chemicals.

Basic Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in related science required.
  • A minimum of three years of work experience as a REHS, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of contemporary methods, principles, techniques, practices, and developments in Environmental Health.
  • Ability to apply chemical, physical, and biological sciences to Summit County Public Health programs for the control of environmental factors influencing public health.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work independently.
  • Current valid Ohio driver's license, automobile availability and insurance coverage.
  • Acquisition and maintenance of the Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Environmental Health Specialist in Training credential from the Ohio Department of Health.

  • Depending on job duties, employee may be required to acquire special certifications including but not limited to: Licensed Pest Operator, Healthy Homes Specialist, ServSafe, Certified Pool Operator, Asbestos Hazard Evaluation Specialist, etc.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works in a normal office environment as well as in various work sites, which involve potential exposure to inclement weather including but not limited to extreme temperatures, unpleasant smells or odors, and excessive levels of dust, dirt, lead, mold, and other elements of typical Sanitarian work. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts in precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, pesticides, toxins or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
