AmeriCorps Ohio College Guide

The AmeriCorps Ohio College Guides and Career Pathway Coaches Program maintains that all students deserve equal access to educational opportunities. The goal of the College Guides and Pathway Coaches is to ensure that students, especially typically under served students – first generation college going, low-income, and minority – get the information and knowledge they need and deserve to make educated decisions and plans for their future. 

As an AmeriCorps initiative, members of the Ohio College Guides and Career Pathway Coaches undergo ample training, and are provided with valuable professional development, networking, and guidance and support with career and graduate study goals. Members serve full-time, or 1100 hours over 11 months and in return, receive a living allowance up to $30,000 and an Educational Award, up to $6,895 upon completion of the full-time commitment.   

Positions begin on August 7th, 2023 and end on June 28th, 2024.

Serving with College Now Greater Cleveland, the College Guide will provide one-on one advising in addition to group advising to help students in planning for and accessing their postsecondary goals. Specific duties include assisting students in making a post-secondary education plan; providing college and career information to students and families, creating and delivering classroom workshops to students, assisting students with their college applications, plan and chaperone college visit, assisting students and families with the financial aid process, identify students who may be eligible for scholarships, assisting clients with college and career information in our Resource Center, providing support to mentoring staff as needed, and entering data into College Now’s database to track services provided to students and families.

Serving with College Now Greater Cleveland, the Career Pathway Coach will serve in one of two primary roles:
  1. Career Pathway Coach True2U-8th grade or
  2. Career Pathway Coach – Academies of Cleveland (AOC) – high school focus serving at East Tech, Garrett Morgan, Glenville and, Max Hayes.
Both roles will provide direct support to 8th grade students and high school students through individual and/or group advising; Acclimate students to postsecondary planning by setting goals, administering career and personality assessments and assisting students with determining possible career pathways; Utilize Naviance system and assessments; Track services for students by inputting data into College PATH; Assist with planning, coordinating and implementing of events: 9th grade Career Experience Fair, 9th Grade Commitment to Graduation Ceremony; resume workshops; mock interviews; shadowing; virtual events; Assist with planning and coordinating events: True2U Kick-off event; high school choice fair; Year-end culminating event.
