ABOUT WOIO/WUAB WOIO-WUAB are the CBS and CW Affiliates in Cleveland, Ohio. We produce 48.5 hours of news per week and deliver content on a 24/7 basis on our digital platforms.
JOB SUMMARY WOIO is seeking a full-time News Writer/Producer for TV & Digital.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for writing/producing compelling and visually appealing newscasts for TV & digital content for web, app and OTT platforms. Must be a strong, punchy writer with impeccable news judgment with an eye for the people, pictures and pace approach to local newscasts. Must have the ability to craft compelling TV rundowns that emphasize urgency, immediacy, Breaking News, Disruptive and Breaking Weather and other “Alert” areas of content. On the digital side, must be a strong writer capable of applying SEO strategies and social engagement tactics.
May be called upon to perform Assignment Desk duties including monitoring news wires/police radios, maintain phone lists of sources, keep files/records of upcoming news events. Assist broadcast producers in writing and preparing news broadcasts. Writing stories for our various digital and social platforms. Generate & provide story ideas, research as necessary. Direct videographers and/or reporters to gather/produce the news.
Requirements:
Strong verbal/written communications skills and knowledge of AP Style required. Bilingual journalism skills a plus. College degree in Journalism preferred. Ability to work well under pressure and well with a diverse group of people. Must be able to handle a wide variety of variables, including short deadlines, shifting schedules and shifting from one platform to another. Other duties as assigned by news management. Drug screen required.
