NASA SCaN-Space Networking Implementation & Streaming Testing/Lunar Operations - SIP

Study and implementation of Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN) capabilities into lunar surface robotics to create an experimental space communications testbed, and evaluate performance under varying conditions and configurations.

Duties and responsibilities of the intern: Researching the specific applicability of DTN to robotic platforms, collaborating with DTN team, tailoring networking protocol to fit application and implementing on a small computing platform such as a Raspberry Pi to demonstrate functionality. The resulting system will be combined with other elements (such as instrumentation and physical layer communications) to experiment with data delivery methods from the surface of the moon back to Earth. Desired Qualifications: Networking, Computer Architectures, Software Development.

Computer/Software Skills: C++, working with Git, ability to become familiar and work with the bundle protocol code found here: https://github.com/nasa/HDTN-BPCodec

Scientific and Technical Skills: Working knowledge of basic networking standards and embedded system development, and object oriented knowledge.
