Food Safety and Quality Assurance Intern

Great Lakes Cheese is seeking a Quality Assurance Intern from June 2023 – August 2023 at our Hiram, Ohio plant. RESPONSIBILITIES
·      Checkweigher underweight project. Develop underweight verification check for each line and product weight/type. Integrate into daily operator line checks.
·      Update quality documentation to help with external and internal audit standards. Transition SQF Edition 8 numbering and naming conventions into Edition 9 format as specified by corporate FSQA.
·      Assist with package and record review
·      Assist with cheese quality review and provide feedback to the suppliers
·      Day-to-day lab work as needed
·      All GLC interns are expected to perform any assignment or job task according to the stated safety policies and procedures.
·      Other responsibilities as assigned by the manager.
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
·      Current college student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, or related field.
·      Year in school: Sophomore.
·      Must have at least a 3.0 GPA.
·      Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

·      Strong attention to detail, data analysis, and reporting skills.
·      Strong communication, presentation, and team skills.
·      Strong organizational and time management skills.
·      Self-motivated with a high level of initiative, able to work well independently.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
·      Work is performed in primarily a manufacturing setting, with an office setting as needed.
·      Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35ºF to 100ºF; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.
·      Able to be flex to different shifts or hours depending on project needs.
