About The Job:  
The Career in Golf Development Program is a development role focused on assisting in the day-to-day golf operations at Westfield Country Club while building skills and experience associated with a career as a Golf Professional. As directed, the Golf Intern performs duties related to starting golfers, including readying and maintaining golf carts located at the Westfield Country Club. Assists in teaching and organizing Junior Golf programs. As directed, assists and helps organize Events and Tournaments. Plays rounds of golf with members and Westfield employees.

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)
As directed, performs duties related to starting golfers. This includes:
  • Ready and maintains golf carts, cleaning the golf carts, loading clubs on the carts, performing light maintenance on carts, and ensuring players tee off at their scheduled times.
  • Greets members/guests with a courteous welcome and provides appropriate direction to the Clubhouse or assigned tee.
  • Loads members/guests golf club’s carefully and securely onto the appropriate cart.
  • Teaches and organizes Junior Golf Program in a professional and organized manner with assistance from professional staff. 
  • Under direct supervision of professional staff, assists, organizes, and sets up tournaments.
  • Keeps supervisor promptly and fully informed of any carts in need of repair.
  • Treats all members, guests, and employees with respect. Maintains neat appearance.
  • Achieves the high standards of quality, production, cooperation, and service set by Westfield for our employees, guests, and customers.
  • As needed and directed, plays golf with club members, employees, and guests with varying degrees of golf experience and proficiency.
  • Complies with all OSHA and Westfield safety/training/certification standards within required timeframes.
  • Consistently reports to work on time and completes shifts, as scheduled.
  • Regular operation of golf carts and/or other maintenance vehicles in order to accomplish other essential functions outlined above. May have additional travel requirements to fulfill essential functions. 

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.
  • Currently pursuing or within 1 year of receiving a secondary education degree with a related field of study such as Hospitality, Business Admin, Professional Golf Management (PGM), or Turf Management.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule with the ability to work mornings, afternoons or evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and receive instructions from leader, co-workers, and customers both verbally and in writing.

Physical Requirements (specific to the role) 
The physical demands described herein represent those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, twist, crouch, sit, stand, walk over varying terrain, lift and carry objects weighing over 35 pounds.
  • Ability to golf multiple rounds in a day. 
  • Ability to remain on feet the majority of the workday.
  • Ability to operate an automobile within the parameters of the driving policy. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as: telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to travel as required.
