Job Description
Location: GCFB Facility, Cleveland, Ohio
Rate: $17.61/hour
Reports to: Department Supervisor & Program Coordinator
Hours: Full-time; between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (varies by department), Mon. - Fri.
June 2023 – August 2023 (11 weeks total)
The Greater Cleveland Food Bank Summer Internship Program (SIP) was developed to provide current students (undergraduate or graduate) and recent graduates with an opportunity to learn, do, and grow. The program offers the opportunity to complete practical workplace tasks, engage in experiential learning, and enhance professional development through an eleven-week program.
REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be a current student (undergraduate or graduate) or a recent graduate. Background or interest in food banking, nonprofit management, business administration, operations, social work, accounting, and/or human resources, preferred. Must have a record of academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to community service.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Interns will gain an in-depth view of how the GCFB operates during the internship and will be assigned to a specific department. Responsibilities of interns will vary based on the intern’s background and interest. Possible activities include research and analysis of new policies and initiatives; working with staff on critical GCFB projects and processes; attending staff meetings and community events; and participating in volunteer experiences. All interns will participate in a series of enrichment activities highlighting key GCFB programs, services, and functions. Each intern will complete a department-enhancing project and present their work to senior leadership at a SIP Summit during the final week of the program.

- Agency Services: Work closely with Senior Programs team assisting with various special projects such as onsite CSFP distribution, muni-lot distribution, and the home delivery DoorDash pilot program. Assist in providing record keeping and ongoing trainings to all senior program partners/sites providing tech support and updates utilizing Agency Services Portal. Work with Agency Services team to assist in conducting required visits during the year.
- Communications & Events: Assist on planning logistics and promotion for multiple events for key stakeholders including agency partners, volunteers, donors, etc. Opportunities to assist with summer feeding promotions and other annual events. Departmental duties may also include writing news releases, taking photographs, collecting client stories, etc.
- Finance/Accounting: Process monthly accounting transactions and journal entries. Prepare monthly account reconciliations. Create and review budgets and operating results. Assist with various financial reports. General accounting duties and special accounting-related projects as assigned.
- Human Resources: Assist with sustainability, employee engagement events, and employee wellness projects. Assist in the planning logistics of the employee engagement event and launching Employee Wellness Council. Work with staff DEI Council to advance company initiatives surrounding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
- Philanthropy/Development: Position will gain experience in donor management, researching prospects, and project management. Assist in drafting correspondence, reports, proposals, and donor appeals. Donor management using Raisers Edge, iWave, and other prospect research tools. Conduct research on potential donors and strategic partners.
- Programs: Assist with setting up and conducting site visits with our Mobile Pantry and School Market partners. Will be trained on how to conduct a site visit, how to follow mandatory guidelines from the agencies that audit GCFB, how to catalog documentation from site visits, and how to address findings during site visits. Assist in ensuring accurate information on records in Ceres database and Smartsheets.
- Volunteer Experience: Assist with the planning and facilitation of the inaugural Ohio Food Bank Volunteer Leadership Conference. Help broaden the Food Bank’s school engagement efforts by identifying key contacts, teach them about the Food Bank’s volunteer opportunities, and make it easier for them to support our mission. Assisting with volunteer coordination along with updating and monitoring the Food Bank’s volunteer survey.
