What I liked

At Hinkley, I was immersed with so much learning. Going from fully remote the previous summer to being fully in person was a change. I got to interact with many different people which made my internship so much fun. There were so many events for the interns and employees to participate in and I was given valuable feedback from my manager each week. Overall, I would highly recommend Hinkley for a first internship in person or someone who is seeking to understand an amazing company culture.

Sales Analytics Intern

May - August 2024 • Avon Lake, OH

What I liked

At Hinkley, I realized early on that it is a great atmosphere in which to work. They were very friendly and accommodating early on in the learning process. Managers at Hinkley are extremely helpful and establish great relationships with all the interns. They also allowed interns to learn about different parts of their business and understand how manufacturing performs daily.

What I wish was different

I personally did not have any big complaints about the internship, however, at times work became slow. But I was able to reach out to other managers to help them out with any work they could use my skillset for.

Advice

I am a very shy person, but Hinkley helped me open up and was a very welcoming environment. A piece of advice would be to not be scared or intimidated be your coworkers, they are there to help you grow and achieve your goals.

Mechanical Engineering Intern

May 2024 • Avon Lake, OH

What I liked

As a ME intern, I was mainly responsible for scanning fixtures for their photometrics, among other work such as CAD work. Overall, this has been an excellent experience this far. I've been able to work with professionals and help with real engineering problems. I've gained an incredible amount of experience and knowledge which I wouldn't have gotten anywhere else. The company culture is also very friendly and fun. For example, there is a lunchtime pickleball league, which I've taken advantage of in my time there.

What I wish was different

One thing I wish was different would maybe be doing more joint work with the other engineering disciplines there. For example, there are mainly mechanical and electrical engineers there, but I rarely work with any electrical engineers on projects, if only briefly. I can see why this might be the case as we each have our own responsibilities. However, it would be nice and even somewhat fun I think to do a collaborative project.

Advice

I've found a lot of my success here in asking questions when something didn't make sense. Not being afraid to ask for help is very important in my opinion for a few reasons. For one, you're able to accomplish tasks more accurately as there isn't anything that you might overlook or do without understanding it. Another reason is that you'll learn more and increase your knowledge base and value as an employee.
