Corporate Tax

June - August 2019 • Florham Park, NJ

What I liked

The team I was on helped me learn a ton about the company and about the work we had to complete. My peers were super helpful in bringing me up to speed on projects and on how different database systems operated. The different events available throughout the internship were fun and varied. I was able to meet a lot of professionals form the firm as well, which aided in me learning even more.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more to do throughout the internship, but understood that the Summer in my department wasn't the busiest time. Every team operated differently, and some friends in other departments ended up being very busy. However, I'm sure I won't be complaining about this when I eventually start full time.

Advice

Meet as many people as you can throughout the internship and get out of your comfort zone. This goes for both the internship and in any professional setting. The more people you meet, the better. You will only get what you put into it, so give every bit your best effort, even in the slower points in time. Also: if you are looking to become a CPA, make a plan and stick to it.

Audit Intern

June - August 2019 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

The inter company training seminars were especially helpful in allowing me to get a firsthand experience of what the job will require. Also, I was able to meet about fifty people who I will be working with in the future and it was great to meet them and see how well I could work with them in the future by joining them in their work for eight weeks over the summer.

What I wish was different

The timing of when I applied for this internship was just before midterms. I wish I would have planned my timing a little better to apply earlier in the semester because I was conducting the first, and second round interviews during midterm study time and was stressful for me.

Advice

Getting an internship may seem like extra work with the resume preparation, employer research, job applications, and multiple interviews, but they are well worth putting in the effort for as performing an internship will give you a good feel for the company culture and how well you will fit within it which is very important to evaluate before joining an company.

Assurance Intern

June - August 2019 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed learning about technology, specifically being introduced to and familiarizing myself with Alteryx. I also really enjoyed the PwC atmosphere and appreciated the company's values, including its priority of service work and of having wholly healthy employees.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship had been longer, whether starting sooner or ending later.

Advice

As soon as I worked with or networked with someone, I found it beneficial to write down his/her name so that I could add him/her on LinkedIn, keeping a log of my connections and also creating a way to communicate with them in the future if needed.

Business Automation

June - August 2019 • Tampa, FL

What I liked

I was paid very well, I was traveling every week (Tampa, NYC, DC), I got to learn about new and emerging technologies, I got to work on very large and very small scale projects, I got to see the entire process from start to finish, I worked in many of the different groups and got to experience everything, I gained a lot of experience with Agile and Scrum, I got to design, create, and publish my own automation to PwC's online automation store, I met a ton of interesting people and grew my network tremendously.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have completed all of the quick rotations, and then picked my favorite from that group and spend a little more time with them.

Advice

We were the first class of interns in this specific area so we were all unsure of what this summer had in store for us. We came in having never heard of these technologies, and by the end we were able to hold our own. Just take everything with an open mind and be confident in your abilities to learn on the fly. Everything is always changing quickly nowadays, so be ready to adapt and overcome anything thrown your way.

Internal Firm Services

June - July 2019 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

I really enjoyed my internship, I got to experience different lines of service such as Audit, Tax and consulting, which are services I can go into with my Accounting degree. I really enjoyed networking with professionals and getting to see and hear what they do. I really liked it because it gave me a real life example of what I learn in my classes.

What I wish was different

I would not change anything about my internship. It was a great learning opportunity that I enjoyed.

Advice

Always have an open mind and be willing to get out of your comfort zone because that is when you will grow.

Management Consulting Intern

June - August 2019 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

Great people. Interesting work. Overtime pay was awesome!

What I wish was different

The experience was great but I wish PwC would allow you to work in more industries and different competencies instead of putting you in one from the beginning.

Advice

Work hard and be open to additional opportunities like pro bono work.

External Assurance

January - March 2019 • Little Rock, AR

What I liked

The people were so helpful.

What I wish was different

I wish it was longer. It was during busy season so it felt rushed.

Advice

I would share that you don’t need to be advanced or even proficient in auditing or tax to get an internship or a permanent position with PwC. You just have to work hard and have a positive attitude. They love to see a person you is putting forth their best effort and is trying!

Core Assurance Intern

June - August 2019 • Portland, OR

What I liked

My favorite part about this internship is that I was immediately exposed to real client assignments and tasks that I will work on when I actually begin my employment with them this coming Fall.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had more time to work with them. I only had around 6 weeks of on-client work and I wish it had been around 10.

Advice

I wish I had heard about these opportunities earlier than two weeks before the applications were due.

International Tax - Financial Services Intern

June - August 2019 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I enjoyed the culture and when I was given ownership over a few projects. This allowed me to learn and also bring my own skills to the company.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had fewer administrative tasks and got more time for tax research.

Advice

If you want to change what you are doing or want to get another experience, just ask. I was doing billing for a few weeks, but when I told my relationship leader that I wanted to get some client time I was invited to a client meeting the next day.

Strategy & Operations Consulting Generalist

June - July 2022 • Almaty, Kazakhstan

What I liked

I liked the welcoming, friendly corporate culture in the office. I was assigned a mentor on my first day who gave me helpful advice and offered support when I needed it. I also enjoyed working on different projects, which allowed me to learn about different industries and gain new knowledge. In addition, I appreciated the flexibility of my work schedule.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more clear communication of the tasks that needed to be completed for an urgent project. Senior management team members interpreted the project tasks in their own way, and consensus was at times minimal because some team members were unable to attend meetings due to conflicting schedules.

Advice

Be sure to ask questions if you need help or clarification on any task (BONUS: socialize and be part of the team)

Risk Assurance Intern

June - August 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

I loved how personable everyone at the firm was. I never felt lost or discouraged in my efforts there. All of my class experiences at GVSU quickly became relevant during the job in different ways. I traveled to clients, with hotels included, throughout the internship and had a wide variety of experience with different clients. I saw many different parts of the audit, which defeats the rumor that the Big 4 only has a narrow scope for each individual employee. I worked with incredible teams and built both technical and soft skills.

What I wish was different

There were maybe 9 interns for the Risk Assurance Detroit department, and I only interacted with them during designated intern events. I did not work directly with other interns. However, we still bonded as an intern group and remain friends after the internship.

Advice

Allow yourself to adjust and transition to working full time. You will be working for more than 40 hours, but this can include drive time to the client and company-sponsored events, the (fun!!) events themselves, and a packed-ton of experience! Dedicate yourself to the internship and you'll get so much out of it!
