Industry Tax Practice Intern

June - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

Great people with a lot of exposure to new concepts that we’re not necessarily part of my academic classes.

What I wish was different

The commute took a toll on me throughout the course of the summer but the close you live to the city, the better it is.

Advice

Try to connect and meet with as many people as you can to make sure you make the most of it. There are very intelligent people at the firm that can help you throughout your professional career.

Risk Assurance Intern

June - August 2019 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

I loved the people I worked with, they were always willing to help. They taught me so much over the three month internship. Additionally, the feedback segments were really important for my own personal development. I first had to summarize the tasks I completed, which were then reviewed and graded by an Associate I was working with, and finally they were sent to my career coach. My career coach would then have a sit-down meeting with me where we would discuss how I was doing and what I can do to be better. I think PwC has a strong belief of continuous improvement, and that is something I love. There is always more learning and more skills that you can add to become a better individual.

What I wish was different

I wish it could have been longer! I am very excited and grateful to receive a full-time offer (which I accepted). I can't wait to be a part of the team.

Advice

Be ready to learn and make mistakes! Don't feel like you can't ask questions, every single person is available and willing to help. No question is a dumb question, it is dumb to not ask any questions.

Start intern

June - July 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

The associates at PwC were very kind and helpful. I learned so much throughout my time there and grew immensely over the course of two months. I also really enjoyed training as we got the opportunity to go to Atlanta! During the trip, we enhanced our professional skills and also grew as individuals.

What I wish was different

I wish it could’ve been longer because I truly enjoyed my time there.

Advice

My advice is to anyone going to PwC to be ready to learn and soak up as much information as possible. Also, to be ready for personal and professional growth because you will receive a lot of that!

Accounting Intern

June - August 2019 • Kansas City, MO

What I liked

I enjoyed the atmosphere and culture of the office. Everyone had a welcoming presence and there were plenty of activities that we attended as interns that helped us get to know the people within the firm and create relationships with our peers. Although there was not a lot of work for us tax interns to do, I would say that I had a great experience and was able to have to chance to come back next summer to pursue an audit internship.

What I wish was different

One thing that I wish would have been different, which may sound silly, is that they provided parking for us. Us interns had to pay for our own parking downtown and it was a process trying to find the cheapest parking around. Every dollar counts!

Advice

One piece of advice that I would share about my experience would be to ask questions. No question is a dumb question. These people do not expect you to know everything and the more questions you ask to more the more interested you come off.

Accounting Intern

June - August 2019 • Rochester, NY

What I liked

This internship was amazing. I was able to shadow in tax and audit to get a feel for the type of work I could be doing in the future. I also made many connections and relationships with the people at the firm including seniors and partners.

What I wish was different

I wish this internship was longer. Also there was some down time during the internship where I wish there could have been more hands on work to do.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is being an intern, you are learning so many things so I would make sure to ask many questions. Also don’t forget to network and make connections with seniors and others so they will remember you and you can leave a lasting impression.

Tech Consulting Intern

June - August 2019 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I enjoyed the experience and how real it feels. You will be placed on a team and be treated just like a starting associate. This gives you a lot of opportunity to really understand the work and grow. There is no hiding of the work load and expectations. Very transparent company.

What I wish was different

You will have no control over the team and project you get on. It may not line up with what you recruited for and what you are hoping to learn. However, that it is the way it goes in the world of consulting. This is something you have to be ready for and be okay with going into it.

Advice

If you get the internship I would take it. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity with a fantastic company. I would recommend spending as much of your time finding ways to make a real difference on your project. If you don't find something you can do to help, chances are no one will and you will be bored. You can stand out if you try and are smart about it.

Data Analytics Intern

What I liked

I learned a lot and the people at the office were great. They were very helpful and they provided many opportunities for development.

What I wish was different

Some of the shadowing opportunities were pretty useless. It could have been much better planned.

Advice

Whatever assignment you get, think outside the box. Really read between the lines of the questions or prompts you are given to actually provide value.

Core Assurance Intern

June - August 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I enjoyed having the opportunity to be working on projects with other current employees and with clients and developing a skill set that will help me stand out and continue my progress as I continue to move forward with my education and in my career. I was also able to work with a lot of great people which was really fun and a great way to expand my network while making new friends.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been able to experience work with more clients to get a full range of experience and how to adapt what you are doing to various clients.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions, it's normal and expected. If you aren't asking questions, people will think something is wrong. I would advise that you do spend a bit of time to make sure you understand what you are supposed to do and try a few things out to show that you are willing to learn and try to find solutions to problems on your own (being proactive) before asking for help.

Your internship gives you the opportunity to take initiative and stand out among your peers in ways that will exponentially increase your chances of receiving a full time offer.

What I liked

I had the most incredible experience during my summer with PwC. I interned in the State and Local tax department and worked on various client projects with numerous team members. Everyone on the team was so friendly and was willing to help and give guidance whenever needed. I was even able to go to a client site for a couple days which was a really great experience.

Be ready to learn! There is so much to learn in each department including softwares and research materials. Ask questions; no question is silly. Networking is key as well!

Start Intern

June - July 2019 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

I really enjoyed being treated as if I'm an employee rather than an intern. I was respected among the co-workers and was genuinely invited by others for lunch. I also loved the culture PwC embodies. The company makes you feel like you belong.

What I wish was different

Although we did a community service event, I would've liked to see more of the projects the company does.

Advice

A piece of advice I'd share is to network. PwC did a great job showing us interns how to network through the National Training they put together. It was a great way to get out of your comfort zone and meet people you never thought you would meet and stay in contact with. This also carried on into the office throughout the summer. In the break room or around the office, it's okay to say hello and speak to someone, who you can eventually shadow, and to have a familiar face if hired on full time.
