START Intern

June - July 2022 • Tampa, FL

What I liked

This experience was more focused on learning about the firms, expanding your network, and learning about different possible career paths. It wasn't a work intensive internship where you constantly drowning in work, which gave me the opportunity to enjoy it more and get more involved in company activities. It also really encouraged to build relationships and I feel I made a lot of friends during my time there and we will pick up right where we left off when we return.

What I wish was different

I did my best to reach out and do as much as possible. Of course I feel like I could've done more. Such as finding personal shadowing opportunities or network more with staff that has been their longer.

Advice

If given this opportunity take advantage of every opportunity you have even if it is outside your comfort zone. Take the opportunity to get to know your peers because more than likely they will be your future coworkers.

What I liked

My team worked to engage me on our projects, giving me work and responsibility and allowing me to engage with the client. I learned so much because of this, and felt like I was actually contributing to the team, making me even more excited to work.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more intern events. I got to know a few people pretty well but I wish I could've gotten to meet more!

CORE Tax Intern

June - August 2018 • Tysons, VA

What I liked

I liked the State and Local Tax (SALT) team I worked with. I enjoyed the flexibility I was given to work on whatever assignments my teammates needed help with. I liked the constant, real-time feedback I received while working on my projects.

What I wish was different

I wish I had explored more teams and their roles within the tax practice. We were encouraged to shadow other teams and I took advantage, but I could've reached out to more than the two teams I shadowed.

Advice

This internship is what you make it. Ask for a variety of work and be willing to help your team with anything. Demonstrate an eagerness to be there; the team will notice and start giving you more responsibilities.

Tax Intern

June - July 2021 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

Most of all I liked the people who I got to work with. They were all incredibly kind and very willing to help out whenever possible. I also really appreciated that I was never just doing busy work, rather I sat in on important meetings and I helped with actual workpapers that were necessary for our client.

What I wish was different

Due to COVID, the internship was online, which makes it much more difficult to meet other interns and develop your network. Additionally, I wish the internship had been longer than 8 weeks so I would have more time to learn and work on my skills.

Advice

As an intern, they don't expect you to come in with any real knowledge about the kind of work you will do. Most important for interns is to have a good attitude and always be eager to learn - that is what they are looking for.

Audit Intern

July - August 2020 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I learned alot about the company, which was part of the reason I accepted the offer. Everyone was very nice and dedicated to diversity and inclusion.

What I wish was different

I wish I had gotten to experience what an auditor does daily, but the 2 week virtual internship couldn't really provide for that.

Start Intern

July 2020 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

- Opportunity to shadow and learn about each service line at PwC before having to chose one - The data application and analysis training with Excel, Tableau, Alteryx, and UiPath - Ongoing open conversation sharing PwC's culture along with their diversity and inclusion movement plans - Case study with a nonprofit organization

What I wish was different

I wish there was the opportunity to be in person and have a longer internship that allows for more time to meet people who work in various service lines within PwC. However, I believe PwC did an amazing job transitioning from a planned in-person internship to a virtual one as a result of the unplanned circumstances.

Advice

Be adaptable, eager to learn, bring a passionate, positive, and motivated energy, don't be afraid to challenge yourself (that's how people grow), and enjoy the time you spend with each new person you meet because there is always something you can learn from others.
