People and Organizations Intern

July 2020 • Boston, MA

What I liked

Due to COVID, the Internship changed from a ten-week Internship to a two week virtual “Digital Upskilling Course”. Despite the change, I learned SO much! I loved how we became familiar with new softwares such as Tableau and Alteryx, and I earned my badge in human-centered design!

What I wish was different

I wish that it could have been longer than two weeks.

Advice

One piece of advice I have is to NETWORK! During the two weeks, any opportunity that I had free time, I would network - whether via email, zoom meetings, etc. with people both in my group and in different departments within the company!

IFS Start Intern

July 2020 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

It gave interns the opportunity to better understand the different lines of service and see the day to day of associates. We also learned new database and data visualization skills.

What I wish was different

Due to the pandemic it was virtual and shortened. I wish I was able to have done it in the office and for a longer period.

Advice

Ask many questions and interact frequently.

What I liked

Meeting the other interns who I will work with in the future, gaining some more knowledge of the field, and making sure it was a sector I wanted to pursue a career in

What I wish was different

Being in-person instead of a virtual environment

Advice

Take advantage of every opportunity to connect with other interns. They are the ones you would be potentially working with should you receive and accept a full-time offer. Start the relationship now.

What I wish was different

More chances to explore different service lines, more programming after the final project

Network a lot! PwC is a great firm because there are so many different routes so use some time during your free time to network with full-time Associates and hear about their experience!

Virtual Tax Intern

July - August 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

We were placed into small groups of 4 interns and one associate buddy who we had morning meetings with. There was also a manager and director who would check in with us regularly and encouraged any questions. We had a good amount of freedom in the pace at which we worked on digital upskilling materials.

What I wish was different

I wish our experience could have been longer, however Covid did not allow for that. Having some sort of hands-on client work would have been appreciated as well.

Advice

Seek out setting up one on one discussions with employees! I had a few virtual coffee chats with alumni of my university at the firm and they were great connections that made my overall experience even better.

IT Consultant

July 2020 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

The people were great and I learned a lot about the company. PwC really handled the virtual internship well by giving us an agenda of the week. I met all sorts of people. It was a good way for me to make my decision on whether to return or not.

What I wish was different

I just wish I could've interned in person, but given the pandemic I knew it wasn't viable.

Advice

Meet and network with as many people as possible.

Accounting Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I really liked the people, the environment, and how connected the Villanova alumni network was within the group. It was challenging work that I found to be very interesting and engaging. I felt that was able to be exposed to a variety of work despite only spending 10 weeks at the firm. Overall, the experience exceeded my expectations.

What I wish was different

Overall, the program is very well-run and exposes you to a variety of work and people within the field. I wish the firm sponsored more events for the interns across the groups to network and meet. Other than that, I wouldn't change anything!

Advice

Be very open minded and be okay with not knowing everything right away. You have to be open to learning on the job and actively asking questions. This will allow you to get the most out of the experience!

Accountant Intern

June - July 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

I loved how much they emphasized bringing your whole self to work and prioritized life balance. It helped make the environment feel less stressful and you could tell that the office benefited from it. Additionally, everyone there was extremely helpful and took time out of their busy schedules to meet with me when I had questions or wanted to schedule my own shadow experiences, especially in Advisory.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more of a direct pipeline for working Advisory in the Detroit office. I made it well known since my first day at the office that I was interested in Advisory/Consulting however that was not a particular aspect of the START Internship (they mainly focused on tax and audit). Nevertheless, I was able to create my own shadow experience with the professionals in the Advisory/Consulting line of service and they were instrumental toward me realizing that is what I want to do.

Advice

Keep an open mind, don’t be afraid to speak up and be sure to absorb as much information as you can. Everyone there including the recruiters, partners, and staff of all kind want to see you succeed and they do a great job at helping you do so. As long as you are willing to go out of your way to learn, they will reciprocate that and find ways to educate you. I was very nervous about this internship because I was previously a Social Work major before switching to Accounting (very different, I know) and I was fearful that “everyone else knows so much more than I do” but as an intern, they do not expect you to know everything - they care more about what you are willing to learn and how well you work in a group. They offer a tremendous amount of support and mentorship, so take advantage of those connections and understand that any knowledge and experience that you bring to the table is just as important as everyone else’s.

Accountant Intern

June - July 2019 • Tampa, FL

What I liked

It was a great internship. I worked in a great atmosphere with very helpful professionals. I got to learn new data analytics tools through the project I was assigned to and got to present it to professionals from multiple different levels at the firm. Lastly, I got to shadow professionals from all the lines of service which gave me insight and experience into the day to day operations of different people at the firm.

Advice

Keep an open mind, be open to learning and doing things differently, and have a great attitude

Accountant Intern

June - August 2019 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

The firm felt like one big family. I thought I was going to be worked extremely hard and I would be expected to know more than I do about accounting, but all members of the firms were there to help and help you learn everything you needed to know.

What I wish was different

I wish it was longer.

Advice

The things you will do there are not like the things you learn in school. It is completely different. So, go in with an open mind expecting not to know somethings. Again, everyone is there to help you learn.
